Course Overview
This course focuses in advance English language skills in reading, writing, speaking and listening. For students from non-English speaking backgrounds, it will give the knowledge and English language skills needed to undertake further study at an Australian educational institution. Students will read and write extensively. They will learn to use reading strategies, increase their vocabulary, and develop their ideas in writing. Students will become familiar with the cultural norms and practices within Australian academic contexts.
Entry Requirement
No formal education is required to join this course. However, CAC recommends satisfactory completion of an equivalent of Australia year 10. The entry point for this course would be determined by assessment of the student skills using Placement Test which includes four macro skills such as Listening, Speaking, Writing and Reading.
The recommended entry ISLPR for this course is 2 or IELTS 3.5 or completion of prior EAL learning eg Certificate II in EAL.
International Students wanting to study at Central Australian College: must be at least 18 years of age or above to study at Central Australian College.
Learning Outcome
Students who complete this course will be able to participate in casual conversation, give and respond in detail to instructions and verbal descriptions, read and write a range of straightforward informational texts, letters and emails.

The course consists of eight units which are:

VU21500 Participate in a range of straightforward interactions for further study
VU21501 Read and write straightforward texts for research purposes
VU21502 Analyse and produce straightforward texts relevant to further study

VU21504 Use language learning strategies and study skills
VU21472 Investigate features of the education system in Australia
BSBITU303A Design and produce text documents
Delivery Approach
Delivery is in the classroom. Delivery is a minimum of 20 hours per week (face-to-face mode in class) and may include evening and weekend timetables.
All classes will be delivered at its main campus at 8-10 Cross Street, Footscray West VIC 3012.
